BERRY'S BIKE ADVENTURES IN SCOTLAND

30th AUGUST – 4th SEPTEMBER 2023

OVERVIEW

Experience the ultimate Scottish adventure on this exciting bike tour of the west coast with motorbike expert and aficionado, Steve Berry.

Departing from Cally Palace Hotel, we’ll journey towards the coast via Castle Kennedy, taking in the world-famous golf courses of Turnberry and Troon before continuing north along the stunning A78 coastal road.

After skirting the outskirts of Glasgow, we’ll ride along the picturesque shores of Loch Lomond and south along Loch Fyne, spending the night in Fort William, surrounded by beautiful natural scenery.

The next day, we’ll ride to Mallaig Harbour and board a ferry to the Isle of Skye. Take in the breathtaking views as we travel through the remote roads of the island and enjoy lunch before crossing the Skye Bridge back onto the mainland.

Riding along the shores of Loch Duich, we’ll spend the night on the banks of the world-renowned Loch Ness near Fort Augustus.

Finally, we head south towards Spean Bridge and the Cairngorms National Park, enjoying the stunning inland scenery. Skirting the edge of the park, we’ll arrive at our luxurious final destination, the Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, near Edinburgh.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – WEDNESDAY 30th AUGUST - MEET CALLY PALACE HOTEL
We’ll gather this afternoon for a refreshing drink and dinner. Upon arrival between 3:00pm and 5:00pm, park your bike, check in to your room, and take some time to unwind before we reconvene for a drink at 7:00pm, followed by dinner at 7:30pm, both to be hosted at the hotel.

Cally Palace Hotel has its own exclusive golf course, as well as an indoor leisure complex with swimming pool, to allow you to make your stay as active or as relaxed as you choose.

DAY 2 – THURSDAY 31st AUGUST - LEAVE CALLY PALACE HOTEL FOR LOCH LOMOND
Ride A75 / A77 through Turnberry and Troon, then A78 to Greenock and then to Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha – 4h20 / 175 miles

Join us for an amazing ride today as we depart from Cally Palace Hotel and initially head west towards the coast via Castle Kennedy. From there, we’ll make our way north along the Firth of Clyde, passing by the world-renowned golf courses of Turnberry and Troon on the west coast. We’ll pause for a morning coffee break near Castle Kennedy and enjoy lunch close to Turnberry before continuing our journey up the A78 coastal road, which offers breathtaking views of the water’s edge.

Eventually, we’ll turn inland towards Glasgow and skirt around the city’s outskirts, hugging the River Clyde estuary, before heading north towards the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

We’ll settle into our comfortable Inn for the evening, which is situated on the edge of Loch Lomond and just a short walk away from the stunning views across the lake. The Oak Tree Inn boasts a welcoming atmosphere and relaxed surroundings that are perfect for a restful evening.

DAY 3 – FRIDAY 1st SEPTEMBER - OAK TREE INN TO FORT WILLIAM VIA TARBERT

Get ready for an unforgettable ride today that showcases some of the most breathtaking scenery that Scotland’s west coast has to offer. We’ll begin our journey by traveling along the stunning shores of Loch Lomond before heading west towards Inverary, passing by the impressive Inverary Castle. From there, we’ll continue south along Loch Fyne and explore the beautiful Kilberry loop, nestled between Loch Fyne and Loch Caolisport. We’ll be riding on some narrow tarmacked lanes and tracks, but the incredible views of the lochs along the way will make it all worthwhile.

Our route then takes us north through the charming fishing town of Oban before we finally reach our overnight destination at Fort William. This town is nestled between the foothills of Ben Nevis and Loch Eil, offering stunning natural surroundings. We’ll be staying at The Moorings hotel, where we’ll have the pleasure of dining together in the restaurant.

DAY 4 – SATURDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER - FORT WILLIAM TO FORT AUGUSTUS VIA SKYE

5hrs / 177 miles (including Ferry crossing to Skye)

Today’s ride might just be the highlight of your entire bike adventure. We’ve planned a fantastic route that will take us west from Fort William and then north towards Mallaig Harbour, where we’ll board a mid-morning ferry that will cross Loch Hourn for an hour and take us to the beautiful Isle of Skye. Once we dock at Armadale, we’ll embark on a fantastic ride through some of the island’s most remote roads in the southeast, all of which are tarmacked but may include narrow lanes and tracks. The scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, and you’ll be sure to enjoy every moment of it.

We’ll stop for a satisfying lunch on the Isle of Skye before crossing the Skye Bridge back onto the mainland and heading east along the shores of Loch Duich. We’ll eventually arrive at our overnight hotel, The Whispering Pine Lodge located on the banks of Loch Ness, one of the most famous bodies of water in the world, near Fort Augustus. This will undoubtedly be a day of unforgettable riding, and you won’t want to miss it.

DAY 5 – SUNDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER - FORT AUGUSTUS TO EDINBURGH, DALMAHOY HOTEL AND COUNTRY CLUB

4h30 / 190 miles

Today marks the final leg of our adventure, and we’ll be taking a break from the coastal riding to explore the beautiful inland scenery. We’ll head south to Spean Bridge before turning east towards the Cairngorms National Park, where we’ll skirt the edge of the park until we reach Blair Atholl for lunch. After that, we’ll continue our journey through the Tay Forest and Loch Tummel before finally arriving at the outskirts of Edinburgh and our ultimate destination, the luxurious Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club.

This evening, we’ll enjoy a final dinner together in the hotel’s restaurant, where we’ll share stories and memories of the incredible adventure we’ve had together. It’s been an unforgettable journey, and we’ll cherish these moments for years to come.

DAY 6 – MONDAY 4th SEPTEMBER – HEAD HOME

This morning, you have the option to check out of the hotel at your own pace and begin your journey back home. Alternatively, you may choose to extend your stay for an additional evening and take some time to unwind before departing.

Booking your place on this event couldn’t be easier. The first step would be to click the “Enquire Now” button and complete the form, which gives us some basic details about yourself and your party.

We will then get in touch with you to confirm availability on the tour, we will send you a booking form to complete together with our deposit payment options so you can reserve your place on the tour.

As soon as the deposit has been processed we will send you a booking confirmation detailing what is included in your tour together with any extras you may have requested, your travel documents and the balance payment information.

You can secure a place on any of our tours with a deposit of just £1000 per person. This can be paid by Stripe Online Payment, BACS transfer or by card over the phone if you prefer. There’s no need to worry about paying anything more until the final balance is due (usually around 8 weeks before we travel) and you’re welcome to pay your final before that date if preferred. On some of the bigger tours we do sometimes require an interim payment to make it a little easier to spread the cost, however, please note that if the event you wish to join is within the next 8 weeks, we will require the full payment to be made at the time of your booking.

MINIMUM NUMBERS

We have a minimum number of participants required for all of our events enabling them to be viable for us to run - this is usually 10 riders unless stated otherwise. In the event that we don't reach the minimum numbers, the tour may be cancelled at which point your booking deposit will be refunded to you, or if preferred, allocated to another event of your choice.
